Time to get Dirty ...

It occurs to me that Data is in many ways a lot like dirt.

If you're building a roadway, clay is the dirt that you need for strength and stability.

If you're trying to grow produce in a garden, nothing is better than black, silty loam soil.

In gardening as in data refining, learning from trial & error is the best way to success.

FailFast is a key to innovation at most any level ... assuming you're willing and able to learn.

The black soil I hauled in from the farm a few years ago for my garden wasn't enough to overcome the lack of moisture and competition from the trees.

So, move the rich soil to where it can be the most useful.

The same concept is true for data.

All data is not the same.

In addition to understanding the different types of data, as an executive, adjusting to the continually changing needs of your team is critical to understanding the questions to be answered from the data.
